Leading the Columbia Professional Tutoring Program
This is where most of my energy goes. I learned tutoring by accident over twenty years; this program teaches it on purpose — housed in the Department of Cognitive Science at Teachers College, Columbia University, the only university-backed tutor training program in the US. Cognitive science, pedagogy, and real practice: session analysis, mentorship, micro-teaching and peer review, a capstone. Turning great tutoring into something you can actually teach is the most rewarding work I've done.
